What plans can I have in the Basque Country in summer?

We’ll give you a few reasons to spend the summer in the Basque Country.

The first is that it usually has a fairly mild climate. The maximum temperatures in summer are usually between 23 and 27 degrees, of course if we avoid a heat wave. So it’s an ideal climate to enjoy a day at the beach, go hiking or stroll around the city without too much stress.

Now then, What plans can you organize during your vacation? There are many possibilities that the Basque Country offers.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Cultural offer.

For that you have to go to Bilbao, where you will see that traditional Basque culture can be mixed with modernity. In Bilbao you will really enjoy its good atmosphere and of course its excellent gastronomy. You can also enjoy a walk along the estuary and reach the Guggenheim museum, which will not leave you indifferent.

If you are passionate about music and especially festivals, you cannot miss the BBK Live, one of the most important festivals in the country. It consists of up to 12 stages where the greatest national and international artists perform.

If you dare to try something different in Bilbao itself, you can book a boat tour of the estuary and thus get to know a part of the city.

Another alternative that the estuary can offer you is to rent a jet ski and enjoy a different adventure.

  • Excursions

There is undoubtedly a place that you should not miss as it is one of the most interesting places on the coast of Bizkaia. We are referring to the islet of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. An exceptional and impressive landscape.

Not far from there, you can find other places of interest such as the Vizcaya Hanging Bridge or other renowned towns such as Bermeo, Guernica or Lekeitio.

In the Rioja Alavesa, another charming town is Laguardia, land of wines and wineries.

Apart from visiting its many wineries and tasting its good wine, this town is also worth visiting for its architectural heritage. It is a typical medieval town with a Renaissance and Baroque style.

Not far away is another spectacular town, Elciego; also famous for its wineries, especially that of Marqués de Riscal, whose structure is impressive and avant-garde.

  • The sea.

We cannot forget the many beaches in Euskadi.

Enjoy its white sand, the sea breeze and the sun. Everything you need to rest, relax and get away from the daily routine.

But maybe you prefer something more fun and sporty.

Did you know that the best beaches for surfing are in the Basque Country?

You may be familiar with Mundaka beach, very famous in the surfing world. But we also recommend another spectacular beach to practice your favorite sport; Laga beach.

Don’t you know how to surf or do you want to improve? Don’t worry! We recommend the best surf school in Bizkaia; Laga Surf Camp, where you can learn to surf in an ideal environment and with the best instructors. We have surf camps for both young people and children and for adults.
