Surfing rules are even more important in times of Covid-19

The importance of surfing rules in times of coronavirus

For several weeks now, Spain has been in a state of alert with the intention of stopping the cases of Covid-19.

This has made it increasingly important to take extreme caution, as well as to be more prudent people.

For this reason, taking advantage of these times of confinement, from Laga Surf Camp we want to give you a series of tips with which to start surfing individually, but without forgetting that we will not be alone in the sea, and that, therefore, you will be able to enjoy surfing more and better by following our advice:

Surfing for all levels

Priority: The surfer closest to the peak has priority to catch the wave. Therefore, if you have this preference, it is important that you let the others know by shouting. This will help them know that you have priority and that the wave is yours.
In this same vein, if two surfers are sitting in the middle of the peak and the wave opens to both sides, they should let each other know if they are going to the right or to the left.

Don’t jump waves: Wait your turn and make sure you’re on a wave where no one is surfing before paddling out.

Know your limitations: If you are not good enough to enter or do what you are doing, be patient, you can wait for another day, or place yourself in the part of the beach where the waves are smaller or more appropriate for your level. This is not always possible, but there are beaches where there are different sizes of waves depending on the area.

Paddling: If you make a decision, don’t back down, paddle hard and catch the wave.
It’s not worth stopping halfway, paddling halfway or backing out, because if you have paddled and haven’t managed to catch your wave, you will have to wait again for your turn, which means you won’t be able to go first for the next wave.

Stay out of the way of other surfers when they are on a wave: Don’t get in the way of the surfer riding the wave, and when riding up waves try not to get in a crossing line with someone who is surfing.

Respect, tolerance and civility: Use common sense, we all want to enjoy surfing.
