Are dogs allowed in Playa de Laga?
Travelling with your beloved pet is becoming more and more common. Summer is coming and of course you do with your dog. Can you take it to the beach? Is it allowed?
In general, many beaches have restrictions regarding the presence of pets, especially during the high summer season at a national level.
But you should know that the Basque Country is the only Autonomous Community in Spain that does not have dog beaches without restrictions in summer.
However, there are some that allow them during restricted hours in summer and others that you can go to with your dog outside of the bathing season.
These rules are established by the municipal ordinances of the town councils and the reason they allege is “for reasons of hygiene and health”.
At the moment, in the low season you can access any beach and time with your dog, including Playa de Laga. In any case, make sure that nothing else is indicated.
And in high season? Some daring people take advantage of the early hours of the day before the bathers appear or try some remote beaches or small coves, but the risk is great since if you come across a guard, the fine can reach up to 1,500 euros.
Town halls are increasingly aware of this need and are studying the possibility of including our pets on certain beaches or at a specific time.
In the meantime, to obtain updated and precise information on whether dogs are allowed in Playa de Laga and if there are specific restrictions, I recommend that you consult:
- Local sources
- Tourism websites
- Contact local authorities directly
- Contact the owners of accommodation in the area
- Check the signs on the beach itself, since they often indicate the policies and rules in force in the area.
From Laga Surf camp we recommend that, in addition to coming in summer, you can also come to the Basque Country during Easter. At this time of year there are a large number of camps and other activities to do.
